How to Choose Pro Plan Puppy Food
When choosing a puppy food, the real question is: how much will your dog weigh as an adult? Pro Plan puppy foods (Puppy) are split into three ranges by breed size. First pick the range, then choose the protein source.
Pro Plan Puppy Ranges by Breed Size
| Range | Adult weight | Protein source | Bag sizes at Petidi |
|---|---|---|---|
| Small & Mini Puppy | Up to 10 kg | Chicken, Salmon (Sensitive) | 3 kg |
| Medium Puppy | 10–25 kg | Lamb, Salmon (Sensitive) | 3 kg, 12 kg |
| Large Robust Puppy | Over 25 kg, big and muscular build | Chicken | 12 kg |
Small breed formulas have small kibble that tiny mouths can chew easily. For large breed puppies, the goal is controlled rather than fast growth. That's why Large Robust Puppy has a lower fat content (15%) than the small breed puppy formula (21%).
Colostrum: Which Formulas Have It?
Colostrum is a natural source found in a mother's first milk that supports immunity. Among the Pro Plan puppy foods at Petidi, the chicken and lamb formulas list dried colostrum in their ingredients: Small & Mini Puppy Chicken, Medium Puppy Lamb and Large Robust Puppy Chicken.
The salmon (Sensitive) formulas don't list colostrum. These formulas are built on salmon-based protein for sensitive skin and digestion.
Chicken, Lamb or Salmon?
- Chicken: The classic starter formula. Suits puppies with no specific sensitivity.
- Lamb: Preferred for puppies sensitive to chicken or with sensitive stomachs.
- Salmon (Sensitive): For puppies with itching, skin sensitivity or irregular stools. Salmon is the first ingredient.
If your puppy has constant itching or diarrhea, talk to your veterinarian before changing food.
How Long Should You Feed Puppy Food?
- Small & Mini Puppy: Until about 10–12 months
- Medium Puppy: Until about 12 months
- Large Robust Puppy: Until 18–24 months, since growth takes longer
Switch to adult food over 7–10 days, mixing a little more of the new food into the old each day. Adult formulas are on the Pro Plan dog food page.
How Much Pro Plan Should a Puppy Eat a Day?
Puppies eat more than adults of the same weight, and the daily amount changes month by month. The table on the back of the bag gives the amount based on your puppy's age and expected adult weight. Split the daily amount into 3–4 meals for young puppies; after 6 months, 2–3 meals are enough. For details, see our guide how many grams of food a dog should eat a day (in Turkish).
Bag Size: 3 kg or 12 kg?
At Petidi, Pro Plan puppy food comes in 3 kg and 12 kg bags; there is no 15 kg bag in the puppy range. The 3 kg bag suits small breed puppies. For medium and large breeds, the 12 kg bag is more economical per kilo. Close an opened bag tightly and store it in a cool, dry place.
